The Pop Lovers We Are

Photobucket

A fair lot of pop songs have of late been doing the rounds on the Mathematikal iPods.

In showing our love for the genre, and in also expressing our joy at the fact that both Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston are back, we've given a bit of the Math touch to one of our current power-pop favorites: 'Hey You', from Pony Pony Run Run.

Birdy Nam Nam + Justice + Mathematikal

Photobucket

Last December, four French turntablists collectively known as 'Birdy Nam Nam' wreaked havoc at the Festival Trans Musicales de Rennes. Their 2009 full length album 'Manual for Successful Rioting' bears witness to the power of their live shows. The album outro 'The Parachute Ending' has been produced by a certain French duo who go by the name of 'Justice'. The name should ring a bell.

Mathematikal have taken on the track, and we're bringing the stream to you here:

Everybody Needs Wild Cherry

All of us at TDDR were born in the early 80s.  That makes us old enough to remember listening to Salt-n-Pepa's 'Push It' on FM radio as it hit platinum, watching the Fall of the Berlin Wall on the evening news, and blasting suit-clad enemies with dance moves in Michael Jackson's 'Moonwalker' on the Sega Master System.

We did miss the time train, however, when it comes to Wild Cherry's legendary performance of 'Play That Funky Music' on the 'Midnight Special' show in 1976:

Around the time of the fall of the wall, our Parents'/Uncles'/Older Brothers'/Friends' record collections brought the track to our walkman.  It made us jive.

... And that could only mean the track would re-surface again for us, beyond the year 2009, as:

Download it, learn to jive to it like we do.  By Friday night.
